Teen Library Assistant, since February 2014
Clerk, March 2013-February 2014
Page, November 2012-March 2013
I love books, technology, education, pop culture, and graphic design.
LFPL has given me a place to nurture all of these passions and more.

At the Branch
I'm the Teen Library Assistant at the Newburg Library, which means I'm in charge of teen programming and displays. I also work with the other reference staff for programming for all ages, and provide technology assistance to patrons.

I worked my way up to Library Assistant, starting as a Page at the St. Matthews Library, which means I mainly shelved items and helped patrons locate them.
I was quickly promoted to Clerk at the Shawnee Library, where my responsibilities expanded to providing many more services to patrons, including checking in and out materials, making weekly event schedules, and regular maintenance of the collection. After working in that position for about a year, I was promoted to my current position. I've worked at both the Shawnee and Newburg branches as a Teen Library Assistant. |
Teen Services
I'm regarded as "the person to ask" at LFPL when it comes to video games, anime, and other geek culture-related things. In Summer 2019, I developed an Anime 101 training for LFPL staff, and presented it to all of Teen Services. Subsequently, it's now a training I give to any new Teen Services staff members. The slides for the training can be viewed here.

Writing
Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I've found ways to include it in my library work. From 2014-2017 I wrote for the blog Comics, Cosplay, and Geek Culture in Libraries, contributing comic and manga reviews, program plans and general library posts. Unfortunately that blog is now defunct, but it led to me being invited to contribute to "53 Ready-to-Use Kawaii Craft Projects," an upcoming book from ALA Editions. I also wrote for the LFPL Teen Blog when it was active, but it has since been removed.
Since January 2019 I've been contributing to Teen Services Underground when I can find the time. Two of my posts on that blog can be found below.

Union Leadership
On top of all this, I've been active with LFPL's union for most of my time at LFPL, and since February 2019, have been leading it as Union President. We've implemented a lot of change under my and my coworker's leadership of the local, including greater social media outreach, more collaboration with library administration (including campaigning for the library through a budget crisis), the creation and regular publishing of a newsletter, and above all, a commitment to transparency to our members. Despite the Supreme Court decision that effectively passed Right to Work federally, membership in our local has grown and continues to do so.
